Sometimes unexpected situations arise and you have to change your flight at the last minute. If you’re flying with Delta Air Lines, there’s no need to worry as the US airline offers same-day flight change options, which can help ensure you don’t miss your trip.
The US carrier allows you to make changes free of charge or for a fee, within 24 hours of the original departure time.
If you’re planning to change or cancel your flight the same day, it’s important to be flexible with your travel plans. This may mean that you need to consider other airports, other flight times. By being open to different options, you increase your chances of finding a flight that suits you.
Use online tools to make changes
Delta Airlines allows you to make same-day flight changes directly from its FlyDelta website or mobile app. It can be a convenient and efficient way to make changes to your travel plans without having to wait or speak to a customer service representative.
You have two options to make changes the same day
– Same day confirmed
Have you ever needed to change your flight plans at the last minute? Maybe you ended your business meeting earlier than expected or your vacation itinerary changed unexpectedly. Whatever the reason, it’s good to know that DAL offers same-day changes for a fee.
If space is available in the fare class you originally purchased, you can exchange your ticket for confirmed space on a new flight. This means you can choose a specific flight and have a guaranteed seat, instead of waiting to see if there are available seats waiting. This option is particularly useful if you need to be at your destination by a certain time or if you simply prefer the peace of mind that a confirmed seat provides.
However, same-day confirmed changes usually incur a fee. These fees start at 75 USD. It is important to check with your airline beforehand how much these costs will be and if it is worth it for you.
– No frequent flyer fees
Same-day confirmation is completely free for Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members. These members have achieved elite status through their frequent travel and loyalty to the airline.
Important to know:
– This option is only available on domestic flights or flights within Canada, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands operated by DAL and DAL Connection®. (The service is not available on international flights).
– Passengers with refundable tickets can use the Same-Day Confirmed service free of charge.
– If you have booked a main class ticket, you travel in the same cabin using the SDC option.
– On the other hand, if you have reserved a seat in Premium class (Delta One®, Delta Premium Select or First Class) or in Delta Comfort+, you can travel in Economy class if no seat is available in your initial class (after the change of your booking).
– It is not possible to use Same Day Confirmed to travel from another airport located in the same city.
This service may not be available on connecting flights.
– Passengers traveling on a Basic Economy ticket are not permitted to use the Same Day Confirmed service.
– Same day standby
Have you ever had time off and wanted to catch an earlier DAL flight to get to your destination? Or maybe you have an urgent meeting or appointment and need to arrive earlier than expected? In these situations, the Same Day Confirmed option may not be available, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t another option. This is the case of the Same Day Watch option.
The Same Day Stanby service is a service offered by Delta Air Lines that allows passengers to wait for an empty seat on a flight earlier than their original ticket. This service is available at no additional cost to passengers and can be an attractive option for those who need to change their travel plans at the last minute.
By contacting an airline agent, the latter will then check for available seats on earlier flights throughout the day. If a seat becomes available, he will inform you and place you on the new flight. Your original ticket remains confirmed until you are assigned a seat on the previous flight.
It is important to note that the Same Day Standby service is not always guaranteed. If all other flights for the day are full, you may need to stay on your original flight. However, this service can be an interesting option if you have some flexibility in your travel plans and are willing to wait for a seat to become available.
Important to know: It is not possible to use this option if the Same Day Confirm service is available
Same Day Standby is not available on international flights (only available on domestic flights, and flights to/from Canada, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands). It is possible for passengers to use Same-Day Standby to upgrade to a superior cabin depending on the eligibility of their flight ticket and seat availability.
However, the service is inaccessible on routes served from certain airports: JFK-LAX, JFK-SFO, to/from Aruba, Bermuda, Grand Cayman, Los Cabos, Montego Bay, Nassau, Providenciales, San Juan, St. Thomas including flights between Atlanta and Costa Rica, St. Maarten and Saint Lucia, and flights connecting Cancun to Atlanta, Cincinnati, Detroit, Indianapolis, Memphis and Minneapolis (and vice versa).
